Pat grew up on a farm in central Kansas but now makes her home in Wichita.
She is a wife, mother, and grandmother, as well as a neonatal ICU nurse.
Her first book, His Bundle of Love, made its debut in January 2006 from Steeple Hill Books.

By the last one she decided she, too, could write one of these. In 1979 she sold her first Regency to Dell Candlelight--Thomasina, which made a Dalton mass media list. Over the next three years Joan sold seven more Georgian and Regency works to Dell.
In 1983 financial pressures took Joan back to teaching. She taught in a self-contained sixth grade until 1991 when she began dividing her time between the sixth grade and developing a computer lab. By 1993 she was full time in the lab. She went on to install a Windows lab and gained certification as a Novell Network Administrator.
After retiring from teaching in 2000, Joan returned to writing. In the fall of that year her sister, Vera, insisted they attend a Romantic Times conference. Joan's success in a preconference writing seminar revitalized her work. In June 2002 she sold the Promise Rose to Avalon Books.
Joan is currently seeking publication for her Napoleonic spy mystery "Honour" series--story blurbs can be found on her website. Her hobbies include sewing for and playing with her young grandchildren Roman and Sarah, crocheting, quilting, and flower arranging.
